The team behind Kynren – An Epic Tale of England is inviting the public to step into the spotlight and become part of the action, as it launches an Open Call for Volunteers on Wednesday 26th November.
Organisers are looking to welcome new Archers – the name given to Kynren’s dedicated volunteers – to join its award-winning cast and crew ahead of next summer’s spectacular new season.
Kynren – An Epic Tale of England cast members rehearse backstage.
In particular, they are encouraging families with younger children aged 5 to 11, as well as more men, to get involved and help bring 2,000 years of history to life.
No previous experience is needed. Archers receive professional training in everything from stage combat, choreography and pyrotechnics to costume making and visitor experience.
The open call offers a behind-the-scenes look at the site, the chance to meet team leaders, explore roles and discover what it means to be part of a world-class live production.
‘Archers’ – the name of Kynren’s volunteers – receive professional training in everything from stage combat and choreography, to costume making and visitor experience.
“Every year, our volunteers amaze us with their dedication, teamwork and enthusiasm. Kynren simply couldn’t exist without them – they are the heartbeat of the show,” said Anna Warnecke, CEO at Kynren.
We’re particularly keen to welcome more children and families, as well as more men, to join our growing community.
“Volunteering at Kynren is about so much more than performing – it’s about learning new skills, building confidence and being part of something truly inspiring that brings people together,” she added.
Archers range in age from 5 to 88, with an impressive 95 per cent returning each year – a testament to the friendships, pride and sense of belonging they find at Kynren.
There is something for everyone at Kynren, from performing on stage to greeting visitors.
Further Open Call sessions will take place on Tuesday 6th January 2026 and Thursday 5th February 2026, offering more opportunities to get involved ahead of the new season.
The 90-minute Open Call sessions take place at Kynren, Bishop Auckland (DL14 7SF), with parking available on site.
