A spectacular outdoor night show that takes you on an unforgettable journey through 2,000 years of history, myth and legend.

Experience breathtaking live action, mass choreography, stunning horsemanship, pyrotechnics, water effects and a cast and crew of 1,000 volunteers on a vast 7.5-acre stage.

Performed under the stars in Bishop Auckland every Saturday night and selected Fridays from 18 July to 12 September 2026.

The Story

Seen through the eyes of Young Arthur, a boy from the North East searching to discover his roots, Kynren takes audiences on an emotional journey through the moments, myths and people that shaped England.

From Viking invasions and knights on horseback to queens, battles, celebration and sacrifice, history is brought roaring to life on a truly cinematic scale.

An Unforgettable Spectacle

Expect thrilling action, stunning special effects and awe-inspiring performances including:

  • Boudicca’s battle against the Romans
  • Viking invasions and Anglo-Saxon warfare

A World-Class Outdoor Experience

Performed on a 7.5 acre stage – one of the largest outdoor theatre stages in the UK, Kynren combines live action, water effects, pyrotechnics, projection, choreography, music and storytelling to create an experience unlike anything else in the country.

The show features an original soundtrack by award-winning composer Nathan Stornetta and narration by Kevin Whately.

Enhance your evening with the Time Travellers’ Feast — an immersive pre-show dining experience combining theatrical storytelling with a three-course feast inspired by the ages explored in Kynren.

Hosted within the atmospheric Arches Hall, this unique experience blends live entertainment, music and character encounters with bold flavours and unforgettable moments before the night show begins.
