Purpose of Role
An exciting role supporting the Birds Team in their delivery of top-level husbandry and welfare and supporting the production of The Lost Feather show, an integral part of Kynren – The Storied Lands. Working alongside our bird team, you will assist with aviary cleaning, grounds maintenance, food preparation and general husbandry tasks, ensuring high standards of animal welfare are met and support show readiness. You will also aid in live show elements and applicants should show willing and flexibility towards live performances in costume.

Bird Care and Aviary Duties
- Assist with daily aviary cleaning, maintenance and husbandry tasks to ensure top-level standards of welfare and presentation are maintained.
- Prepare and distribute food in accordance with set feeding regimes and hygiene protocols.
- Support the safe handling and flight of birds under the guidance of expert bird trainers.
- Maintain clean, safe and organised working environments within the state-of-the-art aviary facilities.
- Assist with grounds maintenance tasks including weeding enrichment areas and general upkeep of the facility.
- Support rehearsals and live performances of The Lost Feather, including by wearing costume and, at times facilitating the release, flight and safe handling of birds.
- Work collaboratively within the wider Bird Team to ensure safe and considerate care.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

Skills and Experience
Essential
• A genuine interest in animal welfare and the care of birds.
• Willingness to undertake physical outdoor work, including cleaning and manual handling tasks.
• Reliable, proactive and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Flexible approach with the ability to support a wide range of departmental duties.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Comfortable working in a performance environment, wearing costume and being around a stage.
Desirable
• Previous experience working with birds or in an animal care environment.
• Relevant animal management qualifications or training.
• Understanding of basic husbandry practices and biosecurity principles.
• Experience supporting live shows or public-facing animal interactions.
