The Volunteers who bring Kynren to life

At Kynren, magic happens both on and off the stage, thanks to our incredible behind-the-scenes volunteer team. This skilled group works tirelessly to deliver a world-class performance, utilising state-of-the-art hydraulics, intricate props, exquisite costumes, and cutting-edge technology. 

Crafting Costumes with Care 

Our volunteer costume-makers are the creative force behind Kynren’s 3,000+ elaborate costumes. They sew endless seams, stitch thousands of buttons and pearls, and expertly handle mile upon mile of fabric and lace to create stunning outfits. These costumes are designed to be adjustable, ensuring they fit multiple cast members throughout the season. 

On show nights, these talented volunteers become dressers, assisting the cast with quick costume changes. Between performances, they meticulously repair and maintain the costumes, readying them for the next audience. 

Mastering Props with Precision 

The prop makers at Kynren are a team of artisans and historians. They’ve crafted over 3,000 props, including helmets, shields, banners, and Georgian carts. Through meticulous research, they ensure every prop looks authentic to its historical era. 

During performances, they manage the complex logistics of storing and transporting props, ensuring they are in the right place at the right time for seamless scene transitions. 

Technical Brilliance 

The technical team ensures every aspect of Kynren runs like clockwork. From synchronising lights, sound, and stage action to managing the pyrotechnic sequences, they are the backbone of the show’s technical excellence. 

They also oversee the hydraulics and mechanics of large set pieces, supported by a team of divers who operate unseen beneath the lake, ensuring every detail of the performance goes off without a hitch. 

Safety and Stage Management 

Kynren’s stage is vast and dynamic, with humans and animals moving across it in the dark. A dedicated stage management team works tirelessly to ensure safety and precision. They coordinate entrances and exits, making sure everyone—cast and animals alike—are in the right place at the right time. 

The Estates Team 

Beyond the performance, our estates team keeps Kynren’s surroundings beautiful and sustainable. From planning and planting to landscaping and maintaining the grounds, they ensure the site is as breathtaking as the show itself. Their work also supports Kynren’s sustainability strategy, preserving the beauty of our venue for years to come. 

Visitor Experience Team  

The visitor experience team ensures every guest at Kynren enjoys an unforgettable experience from the moment they arrive until they leave. Over 150 volunteers work tirelessly to create a seamless and welcoming journey for every visitor. 

This team directs visitors in the car park, greets them upon arrival, and helps them find their seats. They answer questions, provide first aid if needed, and ensure security throughout the site. Each team member undergoes specialist host training to make sure every visitor feels cared for, ensuring they leave with a smile and cherished memories. 

The dedication, passion, and talent of our behind-the-scenes volunteers are what make Kynren truly extraordinary. Every stitch sewn, prop placed, light timed, and path cleared is a testament to their commitment to bringing history to life in a spectacular way.
