The North East’s biggest Pyromusical takes place on Saturday 31 October 2026.

An extraordinary celebration of flight

The Lost Feather is a breathtaking live-action show where birds fill the sky above you, sweeping, soaring and gliding through a living landscape of water, mist and light.

Featuring over 250 birds in free flight within a spectacular nest-inspired arena, the show surrounds audiences with moments of beauty, power and awe.

At its heart, The Lost Feather is a powerful celebration of humanity’s connection with birds — and a moving call to care for and protect the natural world they depend on.

The experience is brought to life by an original score, recorded by the BBC Concert Orchestra, adding cinematic scale and emotional depth to every moment.

Show Information

The story

A single feather drifts down from above.

From this moment, The Lost Feather unfolds as a poetic journey guided by two characters — a curious Young Bird Guardian and a Wise Guardian, keeper of ancestral knowledge. Together, they explore humanity’s timeless fascination with flight and the delicate bond between people and the natural world.

As the arena transforms, birds take to the air in sweeping, instinctive movements. Elegant cranes rise and glide, pelicans skim low across water, and falcons slice through the sky with astonishing speed. Then the world bursts into colour — vivid flashes of scarlet, blue and gold as macaws and galahs sweep overhead, filling the space with movement, sound and life.

As light shifts and the atmosphere deepens, owls emerge silently from the shadows, while eagles and vultures soar high above, revealing the unseen forces that keep ecosystems in balance.

The journey leads into Nistan — a living sanctuary shaped by myth and science — a symbol of both the beauty of the natural world and its fragility. In a breathtaking finale, birds return to the sky together in a sweeping mass flight, carrying a simple message: every feather, however light, carries the weight of the future.

Behind the Scenes: Care & Conservation

The Lost Feather plays an important role in Kynren – The Storied Lands’ wider commitment to biodiversity, conservation and responsible animal care.

Birds are cared for by world-class specialists using positive reinforcement, with participation always voluntary. They live in spacious, free-lofted aviaries that allow natural flight and behaviour, with carefully managed rest and rotation.

Beyond the show, our work supports conservation breeding, research partnerships and habitat creation — helping protect species both on site and in the wider world. This includes collaboration with the Hawk Conservancy Trust on research focused on British birds of prey, contributing to greater understanding and long-term conservation of these iconic species.

Our aim is not only to inspire wonder, but to ensure that the beauty audiences experience on stage is matched by meaningful action beyond it.
